Throughout 2025, Miguel Ramôa from University College Cork (UCC) represented GENEGUT at several national and international scientific events, sharing progress on the development of polymeric nanoparticles for the intestinal delivery of RNA as a novel treatment approach for ileal Crohn’s disease (CD). These presentations offered valuable opportunities to discuss GENEGUT’s research, build connections and engage with experts in nanomedicine, RNA therapeutics and inflammatory bowel disease.
Galenus Workshop – Bioengineering the Future of Drug Delivery
Date & Venue: 26-27 March 2025, i3S, Porto, Portugal
Presentation: Development of Polymeric Nanoparticles for Intestinal Delivery of RNA as a Treatment for Ileal Crohn’s Disease
Earlier in the year, Miguel delivered an oral presentation at the 12th Galenus Workshop, hosted by i3S. He highlighted recent progress in formulating and optimising polymeric nanocarriers capable of withstanding intestinal barriers and delivering RNA to the epithelium. His work forms a key part of GENEGUT’s mission to develop an effective oral RNA therapeutic for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.
All Ireland Schools of Pharmacy Conference 2025
Date & Venue: 4-5 September 2025, School of Pharmacy, UCC, Ireland
Presenting again the following day, Miguel joined researchers from across the island of Ireland. He shared that the conference was a great benefit to discover RNA-related research happening in other Irish institutions, and a pleasure to make new connections with other PhD students.
UCC College of Medicine and Health Research Conference 2025
Date & Venue: 3 September 2025, School of Pharmacy, UCC, Ireland
At UCC’s annual internal research conference, Miguel presented GENEGUT’s advances to university staff and students. He noted that it was “a great opportunity to see the scope of research taking place at the university and to speak to colleagues working in similar fields, particularly on IBD therapies”.
13th International mRNA Health Conference
Date & Venue: 11–13 November 2025, InterContinental Berlin, Germany
At this flagship global event focused on mRNA basic and translational science, Miguel presented GENEGUT’s approach to oral RNA delivery to an international audience, including strong participation from industry. He found the conference “highly insightful,” particularly sessions covering mRNA design optimisation, nanocarrier development, long-term storage, and RNA biology, and valued the opportunity to exchange ideas with companies and researchers on strategies relevant to oral RNA delivery, a central challenge for GENEGUT.
Across these four events, Miguel’s contributions helped showcase GENEGUT’s scientific progress, expand collaborations and strengthen engagement with the wider RNA and drug delivery communities. His presentations continue to support GENEGUT’s goal of developing a first-in-class oral RNA therapy for ileal Crohn’s disease.
