We are pleased to announce the second online seminar in the GENEGUT series, this time featuring Dr. Ameya Kirtane from the University of Minnesota as our guest speaker. His talk, titled “Designing solutions for overcoming barriers to gastrointestinal mRNA delivery”, will take place on 5 June 2025 from 3–4 PM (Irish time).
This seminar is open to the public, and we warmly invite researchers, students and anyone interested in the future of drug delivery and mRNA therapeutics to join us.

Dr. Kirtane will share his cutting-edge research on overcoming biological barriers to deliver mRNA therapeutics via the gastrointestinal tract—an area with immense potential to enable non-invasive treatment strategies. This session is set to offer invaluable insights into drug formulation and nanoparticle engineering, all of which are central to advancing GENEGUT’s goals.
About Dr. Ameya Kirtane (University of Minnesota)
Dr. Ameya Kirtane is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Minnesota in the United States. Ameya received his PhD from the same institution, where his work focused on designing nanoparticles for oncology applications. He then pursued postdoctoral training with Profs. Bob Langer and Gio Traverso at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There, he developed several technologies for gastrointestinal drug delivery of small and large molecules. Ameya has published more than 40 papers and has 9 patent applications. His current research focuses on understanding and overcoming challenges related to mucosal drug delivery.
