Exploring RNA-based therapeutics for Crohn’s disease: Aman Saifi presents GENEGUT research at Ghent Gut Inflammation Meeting

On 15 May 2025, GENEGUT PhD student Aman Saifi (University College Cork, Ireland) presented a poster at the 5th Ghent Gut Inflammation Group Meeting, a leading European event focused on gut immunology and inflammation.

The presentation, titled “Targeted delivery of RNA-based therapeutics to the gut to modulate the JAK-STAT pathway in Crohn’s Disease”, introduced a promising therapeutic strategy being explored within the GENEGUT project. This approach aims to use oral RNA-based therapies to intervene in the JAK-STAT signalling cascade — a key pathway involved in the inflammatory processes of Crohn’s disease.

Aman co-authored the work with Ken Nally and Silvia Melgar, both principal investigators at UCC and core members of the GENEGUT research team. Their findings contribute to GENEGUT’s broader objective of developing RNA-based treatments that can be precisely delivered to the gastrointestinal tract, minimising systemic side effects and improving patient outcomes.

The event gathered researchers from across Europe working at the forefront of gastrointestinal research and inflammation, providing a valuable forum for feedback and exchange.
